well its all a bit of mystery, isnt it?

I don't think its all that mysterious. Although I'll admit that I
expected him to fake his death at least once before he actually died.
He apparently didn't realize that he was scheduled for early
departure.
However, none of it surprises me in the least.
Its nice to be able to post on Usenet without fear for the first time
in four years, I must say.
Tragedy, blessings, irony, as the world turns.

Although I wonder how the hell he ended up in Washington State instead
of New York or Virginia or wherever.

We'll all follow him one day, so it's nothing to get uppity about, but I

it IS nice to know you can once again be able to post to usenet without the
fear of being harassed to within an inch of your sanity, althought the price

i truly believe that merkle made it impossible for strangers from across the
planet to enjoy getting to know each other the way we all used to in RMB and
here. you know,. we used to be able to have asense of community and do stuff
online together. but his particular style menat that any little perosnl
thing you shared with others was used as alethal weapon aginst you. RMB used
to be cool, alt.marek used to be cool. he made it his mission to destroy
that. that he succeeded in doing that really sucked.

i know i am no angel, but i sure as hell never would go to the lengths he
did to hurt and humiliate and punish those i didnt like. that is just self
defeating crap and really you are asking for it when you go to those levels.

so anyway, hows things, pal? what are you up to these days? still in NJ?

I don't think he could. He was too consumed by mental illness. I truly

You're no angel, but you're not suffering from mental illness. At
least not to the extent that Marek did. Personally, I believe that
we're all slightly mad, but Marek was quite quite mad indeed. That's
the difference. you have a confrontational streak (and I don't mean
that as an insult - I quite proudly have a confrontational streak
myself) but you can control your behavior. Your life is not completely
consumed by Usenet the way Marek's was. You can let shit go.

I think some people have no idea how obsessed he truly was with the
whole Usenet thing. It completely permeated his 'real life' as well.
He would go on about you and Tony Myers for HOURS. It was terrifying,
fascinating, absurd, and sad all at the same time. And nothing angered
him more than suggesting that maybe he took the whole thing a little
too seriously...

I reckon Disney thinks they can crap out anything and have it become an

(starring Michelle Tractenberg from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer")
but it bombed pretty bad. It was already on Pay per View like about 6 weeks
after it was released at the theaters. Too bad too because Tractenberg is
pretty hot :P

Disney actually *did* put some "gag" scenes in some of their films.
I didn't believe this when I first heard about it however I have found out
that some of the animation artists really did "sign" their work (mostly as
an inside joke amongst themselves).
I tend to tune out Christmas-type "feel good" comedy movies.
You'll always find some of those released about late November and early
December. They have all of the appeal of an Adam Sandler flick (ie, none).
